The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Claude Bryan (ASN: 483006), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 56th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Preny Ridge, France, 10 November 1918. After being wounded in the foot by a machine-gun bullet, Corporal Bryan refused to go to the rear when ordered to do so, but remained with the company until the whole line was relieved.
