    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Joshua D. Brown (ASN: 1284010), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, October 14 – 16, 1918. On October 14 while commanding a platoon in the Bois de Consenvoye, north of Verdun, Sergeant Brown was wounded. He refused to be sent to the hospital, and continued in command of his platoon, doing excellent work, until 16 October when he was again severely wounded and carried from the field.
