The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private John Brown (ASN: 793900), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 11th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Remonville, France, 5 November 1918. While making his way to the side of a wounded comrade, Private Brown was seriously wounded, but he refused to permit the litter bearers to take him to a dressing station until those wounded about him were first evacuated.
