The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant George L. Brown (ASN: 1781205), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France, 27 September 1918. Corporal Brown crawled ahead of his platoon, located and killed a sniper who had wounded him and several others. Although seriously wounded, he remained in command of his platoon until he was ordered to the rear, when he insisted on going back without assistance, though he was so weak he could hardly walk.
