The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Frederick H. Brown, Jr. (ASN: 1211433), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. On two occasions Sergeant Brown averted heavy casualties in his platoon by going forward and, single handed, destroying machine-gun nests with hand grenades. At the time of his death, Sergeant Brown had brought his platoon to the farthest point of advance.
