The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Edward B. Brown (ASN: 42739), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, south of Sedan, France, 7 November 1918. Private Brown, aided by his corporal, advanced upon a machine-gun position which was causing severe losses to their company. Disregarding personal danger, they silenced the machine gun, thus enabling their company to continue the advance with few losses.
