    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Wagoner Everett J. Brooks (ASN: 92743), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Supply Company, 166th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, northeast of Chateau-Thierry, France, 29 July 1918. In response to a call from the attacking battalion for ammunition, Wagoner Brooks voluntarily drove a combat wagon in broad daylight under intense artillery and machine-gun fire into the front-line position near Fere-en-Tardenois, and delivered the ammunition required by his comrades on the front.
