The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Charles Britt (ASN: 3182478), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Remilly, France, 10 November 1918. While accompanying a patrol, Corporal Britt swam the Mouse River to repair a footbridge. His exploit was accomplished under most severe fire of enemy machine guns and artillery, but his act enabled the patrol to cross the river and return with information of the utmost value.
