No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arthur Tilghman Brice, Jr., United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. Lieutenant Brice distinguished himself While serving with the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces. On 25 July 1918, Lieutenant Brice, during the attack on a village near Le Charmel, while in command of Company B, displayed utter disregard for danger, and succeeded in leading a detachment into Le Charmel and cleared the town of the enemy while under heavy artillery and machine gun fire.

Lieutenant Brice distinguished himself While serving with 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces. While acting Battalion Adjutant, Lieutenant Brice did at a total disregard for danger, leave the Battalion Post of Command on 15 July 1918, about 7:00 P.M., and go alone into Bois d’Aigremont, which wood sere under heavy artillery fire, to the new lines of resistance near Fossoy where they were successfully employed against the enemy’s advance. Lieutenant Brice returned to his post ab out 2:00 A.M. after having successfully accomplished his mission. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arthur Tilghman Brice, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois d’Aigremont, France, 15 July 1918. With a total disregard for his own danger, Lieutenant Brice went into the Bois d’Aigremont under a heavy artillery fire, and led scattered troops to the new line of resistance near Fossoy where they were successfully employed against the enemy’s advance. Later, he successfully led his company into Le Channel in the face of a heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, and cleared that town of the enemy.
