The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arthur Tilghman Brice, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois d’Aigremont, France, 15 July 1918. With a total disregard for his own danger, Lieutenant Brice went into the Bois d’Aigremont under a heavy artillery fire, and led scattered troops to the new line of resistance near Fossoy where they were successfully employed against the enemy’s advance. Later, he successfully led his company into Le Channel in the face of a heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, and cleared that town of the enemy.
