    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Samuel V. Boykin (ASN: 1203478), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, east of Ronssoy, France, 20 September 1918. During the operation, against the Hindenburg line, Sergeant Boykin, with an officer and two other sergeants, occupied an outpost position in advance of the line, which was attacked by a superior force of the enemy. Sergeant Boykin assisted in repulsing this attack and in killing 10 Germans, capturing 5, and driving off the others. The bravery and determination displayed by this group was an inspiration to all who witnessed it.
