The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private James Bougie (ASN: 1207891), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Sanitary Detachment, 106th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. During operations against the Hindenburg line Private Bougie went forward under a heavy shell and machine-gun fire and brought in wounded comrades, continuing his work even after he himself had been wounded.
