By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Regimental Supply Sergeant Ralph P. Borst (ASN: 544706), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 15 July 1918, Sergeant Borst being in charge of the Supply Train of the 3d Battalion, on hearing that a number of wounded had accumulated at the Battalion dressing station, without means of evacuation, and still exposed to violent shell fire, brought four escort wagons over a shell-swept road and evacuated the wounded men to an ambulance station. He then established ambulance service with the 3d Battalion Dressing Station. All this was done without regard to his personal danger from the shell fire, and was all above and beyond what was required of him in his duty as Supply Sergeant. This took place around and near Crezancy, France. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]
