The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Cook James O. Booth (ASN: 1827490), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sivry-Sur-Meuse, France, 26 and 28 September 1918. Cook Booth displayed exceptional courage when, under heavy shell fire and in an exposed position, he constantly made coffee for the battalion and carried it to the lines. On another occasion he assisted in the evacuation of the wounded, carrying them over a half mile under severe fire to the battalion first-aid station.
