The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Timothy D. Bonney, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 103d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Belleau, France, 20 July 1918. With complete disregard for his own safety, First Lieutenant Bonney rescued two wounded soldiers under an extremely heavy barrage of machine-gun fire by which they were surrounded.
