War Department, General Orders No. 108 (1919)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Guy W. Boardman (ASN: 2280987), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 59th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Courchamps, France, 19 July 1918. Though he had been wounded in the ankle, Private Boardman crawled out from a shell hole under heavy machine-gun fire, and made several trips to a small stream 100 yards away for the purpose of filling the canteens of his wounded comrades, until he was ordered to the rear for medical aid. He was later killed in action while charging an enemy machine-gun nest.
