The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Charles H. Blewett (ASN: 2225348), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 9th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Moulins, France, July 14 – 20, 1918. After being wounded in the arm by shrapnel, Private Blewett continued on duty with his platoon until he was relieved four days later. He then joined another platoon, going back to the line, and remained in action until the condition of his wound necessitated his evacuation.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal George Young (ASN: 554730) and Private Charles H. Blewett (ASN: 2225348), United States Army, are cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded them. While serving with Company A, 9th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, after being severely wounded at Moulins, France, 15 July 1918, both Corporal Young and Private Blewett insisted on remaining at their post, displaying the highest quality of courage and aiding greatly in the success of their unit.
