    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Billie W. Belt (ASN: 2195748), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 314th Motor Supply Train, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Bouillonville, France on 24 September 1918. When an enemy shell struck a truck loaded with gasoline, killing two men and wounding several others, Corporal Belt rushed to the burning truck, in spite of the danger from the exploding bedons of gasoline, pulled one of the men from beneath the burning truck and extinguished the flames on his clothing. He then returned and attempted to rescue another man but was unable to do so.
