The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Martin Beifus (ASN: 1710290), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 308th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Serval, France, 12 September 1918. During the advance of his platoon Sergeant Beifus went out alone and with a Chauchat rifle and grenades drove the enemy out of a trench which was later occupied by our troops.
