The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Albert Edwin Beeby (ASN: 106762), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 4th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vierzy, France, 19 July 1918. Corporal Beeby voluntarily left the safety of the trench, advanced about 100 yards in the open, under heavy artillery fire, and carried to safety a severely wounded marine.
