By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Albert Beck (ASN: 546040), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Beck displayed exception bravery during heavy bombardment 23 to 26 July 1918, volunteering to carry messages over shelled areas when wire communication had been destroyed and runners on the same mission had been killed. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Albert Beck (ASN: 546040), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Jaulgonne, France, July 23 – 26, 1918. During the exceptionally heavy bombardment of the enemy from July 23 to 26, Sergeant Beck volunteered and carried messages, after wire communication had been destroyed, and runners wounded by the heavy firing. He also aided in guiding parties in bringing food and ammunition to the front line.
