The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Edward Barry (ASN: 2088934), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 354th Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-du-Barricourt, France, 1 November 1918. After receiving a dangerous wound in the chest from a shell fragment, Corporal Barry insisted in going forward with his combat group. He pushed forward through the intense machine-gun fire until again hit by a machine-gun bullet, which caused his death.
