The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Clyde Barlow (ASN: 554644), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 9th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during action near Cierges, France, 9 October 1918. Private Barlow exposed himself to artillery and direct machine-gun fire while going 300 yards in advance of our front lines to render first aid to a wounded soldier, whom he carried to shelter with the assistance of a comrade.
