The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George Wallace Anthony (ASN: 2256998), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 56th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Rembercourt, France, October 9th to November 11th, 1918. Private Anthony, as company and platoon runner, worked tirelessly and unceasingly without regard to personal safety, carrying messages both day and night under violent machine-gun and artillery fire.
