The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Major (Infantry) Thomas B. Anderson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Courmont, France, 30 July 1918 and near Baslieux, France, 5 September 1918. Leading his battalion in an attack, Major Anderson refused to be evacuated when wounded and gassed, until the objective had been gained and the position consolidated. His courage was an inspiration to his men. Five weeks later he was killed while leading a patrol across open ground, swept by heavy fire, against an enemy machine-gun nest.
