The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Harry N. Anderson (ASN: 107149), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery E, 10th Field Artillery, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Greves Farm, France, 15 July 1918. Sergeant Anderson displayed notable courage in continuing to direct the fire of his piece under terrific bombardment after being twice wounded, continuing on duty until he was ordered to the rear.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Harry N. Anderson (ASN: 107149), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery E, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, near Greves Farm, France, Sergeant Anderson while acting as Chief of Section of the 1st Piece, showed the greatest courage and most distinguished conduct. Under the most terrific bombardment of gas and shell, he continued to direct the fire of his piece, although severely wounded twice, until ordered to receive medical treatment. By his calm, courageous attitude and example, he inspired the rest of his section to a high performance of their duty. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]
