The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Joseph E. Allen (ASN: 1287266), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Brabrant, France, 8 October 1918. Corporal Allen, in company with four other soldiers, attacked and captured eight machine guns, together with their crews, in the face of determined resistance.
