The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Frank Alekno (ASN: 49744), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Maujouy Farm, Senoncourt, France, while a member of a patrol of three men on 21 April 1918. Private Alekno attacked a hostile patrol of seven men, and although fatally wounded continued in action until the hostile patrol was driven back and the officers commanding it, with a noncommissioned officer, was killed. Although mortally wounded, he carried a message for assistance to a point 200 yards away.
