The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Fred C. Albright, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 353d Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Xammes, France, 13 September 1918. When the battalion on the left of his own met with such heavy fire, as it was attempting to take up its position, that it was forced to withdraw leaving many wounded men behind, Captain Albright, with fearless disregard for his own safety, went to the adjoining area and, under continued heavy artillery fire, cared for all the wounded who had been left there.
