The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Edward Adams (ASN: 39001), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Medeah Ferme, France, 5 October 1918. After all the other runners in his company had become casualties, Private Adams carried numerous messages through heavy barrages and maintained communication with battalion headquarters at a critical moment in the operations.
