By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Lieutenant Commander (MC) Ogden Doremus King (NSN: 0-485316), United States Navy, is cited by the Commanding General, SECOND DIVISION A.E.F., for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Lieutenant Commander King distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Surgeon attached to the Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces. Lieutenant Commander King performed valuable service at the Regimental Aid Station of the 6th Marines between 6 and 10 June 1918. Without regard for personal risk, he worked incessantly under heavy shell fire and through his coolness and excellent judgment in the care and evacuation of the wounded set an example to his men in the performance of duty under trying conditions.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Lieutenant Commander (MC) Ogden Doremus King, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving as Surgeon with the Sixth Machine-Gun Battalion, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near the Bois de Belleau, on the 9th and 10th of June, 1918, On two successive days the regimental aid station in which Lieutenant Commander King was working was struck by heavy shells and in each case demolished. This officer at all times set an inspiring example of devotion and courage to the officers and men serving under him.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Commander (MC) Ogden Doremus King, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving as Surgeon with the Sixth Machine-Gun Battalion, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near the Bois de Belleau, June 9 – 10, 1918. On two successive days the regimental aid station in which he was working was struck by heavy shells and in each case demolished. Ten men were killed and a number of wounded were badly hurt by falling timbers and stone. Under these harassing conditions Lieutenant Commander King continued without cessation his treatment of the wounded, assisting in their evacuation and setting an inspiring example of devotion and courage to the officers and men serving under him.
