The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Buford Gary Thompson, United States Navy, for distinguished service and devotion to duty while serving as a Corpsman attached to the Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at the front in France, 3 to 6 October 1918. Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Thompson displayed marked bravery in attending the wounded under heavy shell and machine-gun fire.
