Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Strott distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Corpsman attached to the Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action against the enemy in the operations at Bouresches, France, in June 1918.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Chief Pharmacist’s Mate George G. Strott, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service as a Corpsman attached to the Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on 1 June 1918, and 19 July 1918, at the front when under heavy bombardment. Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Strott performed his duties without faltering and rare fidelity and labored unceasingly and with great initiative. He had excellent judgment and set an example to all men under him. At the risk of his life on frequent occasions he exposed himself to heavy shell fire and poison gases. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French Government.

Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Strott distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Corpsman attached to the Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces. During the operations near Blanc Mont, France, 3 – 10 October 1918, he distinguished himself, being unmindful of personal danger, his only thought being of the wounded men on the field of battle. He labored untiringly, rendering first aid to the wounded and carrying them to a place of safety on stretchers.

Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Strott distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Corpsman attached to the Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces. Chief Pharmacist’s Mate Strott rendered valuable services as Chief Aide at the Regimental Aid Station in the care and evacuation of many wounded from 1 to 10 June 1918. Although at times under heavy bombardment, he performed his labors without faltering and by rare fidelity to duty preserved accurate records of all officers and men of the various organizations which passed through the aid station. He showed himself to be a courageous and faithful man.
