The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Seaman Albert F. Samuelson, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and heroic conduct when the steamer S.S. ACTAEON was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine on 24 November 1917. Seaman Samuelson proceeded to his gun without waiting for orders, and subsequently while adrift in the small boats stood additional watches for men who were too sick to perform this duty.
