The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Brigadier General Charles Gardiner Helmick (ASN: 0-3606), United States Army, for gallantry in action while attached to Headquarters, V Corps, on the coast of France, on 6 June 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

Helmick (ASN: 0-3606), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Helmick distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery B, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Bannoncourt, France, 14 April 1918, and by his brilliant leadership.
