The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Angelo Modena, Italian Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. Major Modena served with distinction as Director General of Transportation and Administration in the Italian Army. He was ever ready to aid the American forces by his sound advice and cordial spirit of cooperation, thereby aiding us materially in the solution of the many problems of transportation which arose during the continued operations against the enemy.
