The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Mariano F. J. Goybet, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Commander of the 157th French Division of Infantry, General Goybet was an important factor in the successes of the Allies. By his valiant leadership and eminent tactical ability the officers and soldiers of the 371st and 372d American Infantry Regiments count it a great honor to have served as part of his command in the operations conducted by him in the Champagne and in the Vosges.
