The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General George Washington Burr, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. As Director of Purchase, Storage, and Traffic, General Staff, General Burr has had under his supervision during the last several months most important and complicated operations in relation to the cancellation of contracts, the adjustment of claims, the disposal of surplus supplies and the storage of materials that have accumulated during the war or that have been delivered by manufacturers since the armistice.
