The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain De Guiroye, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 307th Company, 3d Battalion of Light Tanks, Assault Artillery, Army of France, near Blanc Mont Ridge, France, 3 October 1918. While leading his company of tanks, attached to the Second American Division, into the fight, under terrific shell and machine-gun fire, he set an example to all about him by his coolness and bravery. He showed conspicuous devotion to duty in the performance of which he was killed by enemy fire.
