The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Patrick J. Normanly (ASN: 1901319), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 326th Infantry Regiment, 82d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 16 October 1918, in France. Private First Class Normanly volunteered to act as a runner during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and was shot. Despite being shot he continued to deliver his messages.
