The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Andrew McCall (ASN: 1403221), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 370th Infantry Regiment, 93d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ferme de la Riviere, France, 30 September 1918. Although relieved on the previous night, Private McCall willingly agreed to substitute for a sick comrade, returning the following day to his dangerous post as advance machine-gunner. During a heavy shelling of his position Private McCall was killed.
