The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Cook Edward B. Greene (ASN: 1039062), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Greves Farm, France, 15 July 1918. During a bombardment, and after his kitchen had been blown to pieces, Cook Greene voluntarily carried ammunition to exposed positions for several hours under heavy enemy shell fire and in plain view of the enemy balloons. Although wounded in both legs, he refused to be evacuated until ordered to the rear. After rejoining his battery from the hospital he was again wounded in action.
