The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert R. Forrester, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 327th Infantry Regiment, 82d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Pont-a-Mousson, France, 13 September 1918. Lieutenant Forrester volunteered for duty with other organizations ordered to make a daylight raid against the enemy. His superb leadership and coolness under very trying circumstances greatly reduced the number of casualties among his troops and his disregard of personal safety greatly inspired his men.
