    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private John Byrom (ASN: 2941674), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Byrom distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 310th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, France, 3 November 1918. When the advance of his battalion had been held up, Private Byrom was detailed as a runner to establish liaison with the third battalion. He repeatedly crossed areas swept by intense enemy artillery and machine gun fire and finally succeeded in locating the third battalion beyond the town of Verierres.
