By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Edward A. Harris (ASN: 638615), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Harris distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near St. Georges, France, 15 October 1918. During the time his company was subject to very heavy shell fire Sergeant Harris called for volunteers to help, and, improvising litters, worked all night under heavy shelling carrying the wounded to a place of safety 3 kilometers to the rear.
