    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Sergeant Vincent F. Mulholland (ASN: 89266), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Sergeant Mulholland distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Landres-et-St. Georges, France, 15 October 1918. After all his officers had become casualties, Sergeant Mulholland took command of the company, led them forward under heavy artillery and machine gun fire, and retained complete control of the company until he was severely wounded.
