The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brevet Major of Infantry Eugene J. Charreyre, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Chief of the 3d Bureau, General Staff of the group of French Armies of the East, Major Charreyre has rendered great assistance in the ;acing of the 1st American Division in the Camp de Lorraine and in furthering their rapid instruction in combat. During the American operations of St. Mihiel and the Meuse Argonne he again ably assisted us in furnishing additional artillery support during the attacks. At all times he assured the best conditions of liaison between the staffs of the French and American Armies.
