The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major Michel D. Berger, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. While serving as Chief of D.T.M.A., Major Berger was in personal charge of practically all of the movements of troops and hospital trains. He was tireless and careful in supervising the transportation of our troops through France and in providing railroad facilities for the shipment of supplies. He accomplished with brilliant success a most arduous and important task.
