The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Stuart M. Anderson, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I, with the Royal Artillery, 1st Australian Division, British Expeditionary Forces. The accurate and highly efficient support by the Artillery under General Anderson’s command contributed materially to the successful assaults on the Hindenburg line by the 30th U.S. Division, 29 September 1918. The part played by him in achieving that success has won for him the deepest gratitude and admiration on the part of the American officers and soldiers with whom he was cooperating during the great advance.
