The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Transportation corps) Edward H. Shaughnessy, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Serving successively as General Superintendent, General Manager, and Acting Deputy Director General of Transportation, by his energy, zeal, and able management Lieutenant Colonel Shaughnessy rendered services of the highest type to the Transportation Corps of the American Expeditionary Forces. In the performance of his manifold duties he constantly displayed marked enthusiasm, originality, and sound judgment.
